Are there Differences Between Soccer and Football? Posted on May 5, 2020August 4, 2020 by Melusina Douffet American football is frequently confused with European football. Even so, the difference between the two sports are pretty obvious, yet the same use of “names” are causing confusing among people. Basically, there’s a simple definition between European and American football. Football normally uses hands in controlling the ball while European football is what many call as Soccer. In the sport of soccer, rather than hands you should be using your feet to kick the ball. Two Games Named the Same but Played Differently In American Football, 11 players for every team take part on a 100 yards long field. The teams then try to keep/steal possession of the ball and move across the field to the opposite team’s goal line by running plays. With European Football or simply soccer, the game is played with a round ball. Once again, two teams consisting of 11 players are using their body to have control of the ball in passing to the opponent’s goal line while soccer is dominantly played with by foot but it could be controlled by other body parts such as the head, knees and chest, except for hands. If hands are used either by intention or accident, then a foul will be called and the opposing team will get the possession. The only player allowed to use their hands are goalkeepers. Most of the soccer games are being played on football field and it’s setup almost the same except of the fact that it has a big goal post, with goal nets. Games are played timed quarters. And for every game, there are 4 quarters and halftime. In most cases, pauses are just a minute or two between quarters but halftimes take longer. Something in Common Soccer is somehow a complicated sport to play for it uses flag colors and penalties. In football though, penalties are called out but mainly because the player or the ball is out of bounds or offside. Sportsmanship is also an issue in both sports. This is due to the reason that both sports are quite competitive and may sometimes cause frustration among players. Despite the fact that players are not allowed to tackle another player, there are inevitable instances where players collide with each other and when they do, they hit each other hard. Football and soccer are almost the same in some elements but totally different in how they are played. Regardless of how you look at it, these sports are sure to be competitive and aggressive and can be enjoyable to watch or play. Want to know more about these sports?
