There was drama at the bottom of the league in the 18:00 kick offs as Sporting and Zaragoza continued their recent good runs while Málaga and Almería slumped further into trouble. There was also a priceless win for Levante who overcame a poor Getafe.
Real Mallorca 0 Sporting Gijón 4
Sporting Gijón picked up their first away win of the season with an impressive 0-4 win away to Real Mallorca. The visitors took the lead after just 3 minutes when Diego Castro took advantage of a goalkeeping error to put the visitors ahead. Sporting extended their lead on the hour mark when Kevin turned a dangerous cross into his own goal. Six minutes later it was 0-3 when substitute André Castro scored with his first touch of the game. Sporting wrapped up an amazing win four minutes from time when another substitute, Nacho Novo, scored in a one on one with Aouate.
Málaga 1 Real Zaragoza 2
Real Zaragoza came from behind to beat fellow relegation strugglers Málaga 1-2 in La Rosaleda. The home side got off to a perfect start when Duda got on end of a Mtiliga cross. The visitors got back into the game on 39 minutes when Bertolo took advantage of an Asenjo error to score at the back post. The score remained 1-1 until the 86th minute when Sinama Pongolle scored a good individual effort to plunge Málaga deeper into relegation trouble.
Levante 2 Getafe 0
Two second half goals helped Levante overcome 10 man Getafe. After a goalless first half, the home side opened the scoring on 47 minutes when Valdo slammed the ball home from close range. Seven minutes later the home side extended their lead when Caicedo took advantage of an Ustari error to roll the ball home. Both teams were reduced to ten men on 78 minutes when Manu and Xisco Nadal were both shown red cards for an off the ball incident.
Real Sociedad 2 Almería 0
Almería’s relegation troubles deepened with a 2-0 away defeat to a superior Real Sociedad in San Sebastian. The home side opened the scoring on the stroke of half time when Ansotiegi scored from close range. The heavy rain made good play difficult but the home side wrapped up the three points on 79 minutes when Tamudo scrambled the ball over the line from close range.
